It is a Happy Thanksgiving in Detroit, though it did get a little nerve-racking for Lions fans there at the end.
Led by a bruising run game and a couple tight end Sam LaPorta touchdown catches, the Detroit Lions broke their losing streak of seven games on Thanksgiving by downing division foe Chicago, 23-20, to push their winning streak to 10 games and their record to 11-1.
Detroit's running back combination of Jahmyr Gibbs (88 yards) and David Montgomery (87) combined for 144 first-half rushing yards and 175 for the game as they continue to show why they're the best running back duo in the NFL.
Despite Detroit leading 16-0 at the half, Chicago mounted a second-half comeback and had the ball late with a chance to tie or win the game but Detroit's defense made just enough plays to escape with the win. A Bears illegal hands to face penalty and then a Za'Darius Smith sack pushed the Bears to the very edge of field goal range with 30 seconds remaining. Chicago ran too long of a play on 3rd & 26 and the clock ran out with Chicago having a timeout in their pocket.
The Lions will certainly take it as they stay perfect (3-0) in the division.
Detroit struck first with a 15-play opening drive that resulted in a Jake Bates 30-yard field goal for a 3-0 Lions lead.
Following a Bears 3-and-out on their first possession, quarterback Jared Goff led the Lions on a 90-yard drive in 10 plays and hit LaPorta from three yards out for his fourth touchdown reception of the season to give Detroit a 10-0 lead.
Detroit made it 13-0 midway through the second quarter on a 36-yard Bates field goal following an 11-play drive. Another Bates field goal, this one from 48 yards on Detroit's next possession, made it 16-0 with just over three minutes left in first half. The three field goals put Bates over 100 points on the season.
Detroit was poised to add to the lead right before the half, but Gibbs was hit by Tyrique Stevenson and fumbled at the Bears' 6-yard line.
Detroit racked up 279 yards and 18 first downs in the first half to Chicago's 53 yards and two first downs.

But it was a tale of two halves for the Bears' offense.
Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams threw three second-half touchdowns to make it a game late.
Chicago took their opening possession of the second half 74 yards in nine plays and scored their first points of the game on a 31-yard Williams to Keenan Allen pass to trim Detroit's lead to 16-7. It snapped Detroit's streak of 12 quarters without allowing a touchdown.
Detroit's offense kept their foot on the gas as they answered the Allen touchdown with a LaPorta 1-yard touchdown for his second of the contest to put Detroit back up 23-7.
Chicago countered their next possession with Williams and Allen connecting for a second touchdown on the afternoon, this one from nine yards out. Chicago failed to convert their two-point try and trailed 23-13.
Bates had a chance to extend the lead midway through the fourth quarter but missed a 45-yarder, his first miss on a field goal try all season.
Chicago trimmed the lead to 23-20 with just over five minutes left in the game on a 31-yard DJ Moore touchdown catch but never got any closer.
QB comparison: Goff finished the game completing 21 of his 34 passes for 221 yards with two touchdowns, no interceptions for a 100.2 passer rating. Goff's second touchdown pass to LaPorta was his 100th as the Lions quarterback, becoming just the sixth quarterback in NFL history to log 100-plus passing touchdowns for multiple franchises – Tom Brady (Patriots, Buccaneers), Peyton Manning (Colts, Broncos), Carson Palmer (Bengals, Cardinals), Fran Tarkenton (Vikings, Giants) and Kurt Warner (Rams, Cardinals).
Williams finished 20-of-39 passing for 256 yards with three touchdowns, no interceptions and a 97.8 rating. He also rushed for 39 yards.
Injury report: Detroit's endured numerous injuries along their defensive line this season and suffered a few more Sunday vs. Chicago.
Josh Paschal (knee) and Levi Onwuzurike (hamstring) both left the game in the first half and were ruled out for the second half at halftime.
Linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez (knee) left the game with a little over six minutes left and did not return.
