The Detroit Lions opened Day 3 of the NFL Draft by trading up from the sixth round into the fifth to select LSU offensive lineman Miles Frazier. Detroit gave New England picks 182 and 228 to move up to pick 171 in the fifth round.
Frazier was a three-year starter at LSU, primarily at right guard, but he did take some snaps at right tackle and left guard too. He was the backup at both right tackle and left tackle, he told local reporters via Zoom after the selection.

Frazier is coming into a situation with the Lions where he already knows the expectations and high standards that will be expected of him in one of the best offensive line rooms in the league with three Pro Bowl or All-Pro starters. Frazier was a college teammate and friend of current Lions defensive tackle Mehki Wingo, who the Lions selected in last year's draft.
"I know a lot about the Lions because my former defensive tackle at LSU Mehki Wingo would talk about that O-line, specifically how dominant they are in practice and in the games and how they are one of the best in the league," Frazier said. "I just want to be a part of something greater and I'm ready to compete, honestly."
Frazier didn't allow a single sack last season for the Tigers in 13 starts. In fact, he allowed only four sacks in three seasons as part of LSU's 'bomb squad' offensive line unit.
He's also proved to be extremely dependable during his college career, playing in every game the last four seasons – three years at LSU and one at Florida International— which was over 3,200 snaps total. He made 51 starts total in college.
Frazier is the second interior offensive lineman the Lions have taken so far in this draft after selecting Georgia's Tate Ratledge in the second round Friday night.
"At the end of the day competition breeds success," Frazier said. "I just want to go and be around the best so I can be the best."
