The most anticipated matchup of the Week 15 slate of games takes place right here in Detroit as the Lions host Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in front of a national television audience on CBS at 4:25 p.m. Sunday.
It's a matchup between two of the best teams in the NFL and is a potential Super Bowl preview a lot of football fans would love to see. "The NFL Today" crew will be doing their show live from Detroit Sunday morning.
For Detroit, it will be a terrific test for defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and his crew facing Allen, the MVP front runner heading into the last month of the NFL season. Allen threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns (117.2 rating) and rushed for 82 yards and three touchdowns in a 44-42 loss to the Rams on Sunday. Allen has thrown for over 3,000 yards with 23 touchdowns vs. just five interceptions this season and averages 5.2 yards per rush with 416 rushing yards and another nine touchdowns.
The Bills have the No. 2 scoring offense in the NFL (30.5) just behind Detroit (32.1).
Detroit has their own MVP candidate in Jared Goff, who ranks second among quarterbacks in completion percentage (72.4) and passer rating (109.1) and is fifth in touchdown passes (25).
In a contest featuring the top two scoring offenses in the league, both defenses will be pressed to make plays, and that could ultimately be the difference. The Lions have the No. 2 scoring defense (18.0) in the NFL heading into the matchup. They rank 10th in total defense, 23rd against the pass and fifth against the run. Buffalo's defense comes in at eighth in scoring (20.6), and they're 14th in total defense, ninth against the pass and 19th against the run.
Both teams continue to jockey for playoff seeding with the No. 1 seed in their respective conferences the top goal. Detroit is currently atop the NFC North and is the No. 1 seed in the NFC at 12-1, but both Philadelphia (11-2) and Minnesota (11-2) are a game behind with four to go. The Lions play the Vikings at Ford Field to end the regular season.
Buffalo (10-3) has already clinched the AFC East title, which comes with at least one home playoff game, but their loss Sunday in Los Angeles puts them two games behind Kansas City (12-1) in the race for the No. 1 seed in the AFC. The Bills own the tiebreaker over Kansas City thanks to a Week 11 win over the Chiefs (30-21).

The benefit of the Lions playing on Thursday Night Football last week is the 10 days of prep they were afforded heading into the matchup. The hope is that the mini bye week will allow some injured players an opportunity to return to the field on Sunday. Some names to watch would be: Defensive tackle DJ Reader, defensive end Josh Paschal, defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike and left tackle Taylor Decker, who all missed Detroit's win over Green Bay.
Sunday's matchup is a rare interconference meeting between two of the best teams with a lot on the line heading into the final month of the regular season.
