Week 2 opponent: What the Buccaneers are saying

What are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers talking about ahead of this week's playoff rematch and Week 2 matchup against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field? Let's find out:

1. The Bucs got an impressive 37-20 victory over Washington Week 1, but it came at an injury cost to their secondary.

The Buccaneers' depth will be tested heading into the matchup with Detroit as head coach Todd Bowles confirmed on Monday that cornerback Bryce Hall will 'definitely' miss the matchup in Detroit with an ankle injury and he will likely miss the remainder of the season.

Zyon McCollum suffered a concussion during the first half and reserve Josh Hayes also suffered an ankle injury and did not return. Christian Izien was forced to play outside corner opposite Jamel Dean, a position the nickel back hadn't played since high school, per Buccanners.com. All-Pro safety Antoine Winfield Jr. was injured on one of the final two plays of the game and was wearing a boot after the game.

"Bryce is definitely out (vs. Lions)," Bowles said. "We'll see about (Josh) Hayes. We'll see about Zion (McCollum). Obviously, (Antoine) Winfield was in a boot, we'll see about him later in the week as well. We'll see how these guys do and eventually we'll work some (players) out. And if we need to get somebody, we'll get somebody."

The Buccaneers re-signed former undrafted free agent Keenan Isaac and are expected to have undrafted rookie Tyrek Funderburk available for Sunday too.

2. Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 24-of-30 passes for 289 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions in the win over Washington last week.

The former No. 1 overall pick is certainly looking forward to another chance to get the better of Detroit. It's a game Mayfield admitted he and some of his teammates had circled when the schedule came out.

"Anytime you finish the season against somebody on the road especially and then you play them early on it's something you always look forward to," he said.

"Especially the competition level of Detroit. It's a fun place to play. Dan Campbell always has those guys ready to play. So, we're looking forward to it. There's a lot of things to learn on this (Week 1) tape. Whenever you are playing (Detroit), you expect it to be a really physical game, so we have to be ready for that. We have to be able to handle the crowd noise."

3. Speaking of the crowd noise, rookie running back Bucky Irving, who led the Bucs in rushing Week 1 with 62 yards on nine carries, said he watched Detroit's overtime win against the Rams Week 1 on Sunday Night Football and could tell from watching on television the environment he's about to step into Week 2 at Ford Field.

"I asked a couple guys about how it was (playing in Detroit last year in the playoffs)," he said. "We just have to get back to work and put this (Washington) game to bed and get ready for Detroit."

4. What is Detroit's calling card as a football team?

"They are very balanced," Bowles said. "They are very strong upfront. They can beat you both ways running the ball or throwing the ball. Very physical team. Very fast on the outside. Very athletic at tight end. They can beat you a bunch of ways. They don't have one way to beat you. You have to be sharp on all accounts."

5. Veteran Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans (6-5, 231) caught two touchdown passes against the Commanders Week 1, and one was an amazing catch with a defender draped all over him in the end zone. He has 10 straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons to his credit and it should be a great matchup this week against Lions outside cornerbacks Carlton Davis III (a former Buc) and Terrion Arnold.

"One-on-one coverage with Mike, those aren't 50-50 balls," Mayfield said this week of his No. 1 target. "It's leaning toward Mr. Evans."
