KEY QUESTIONS: How do Lions get St. Brown more involved?

Head coach Dan Campbell spoke to the media Monday afternoon following Detroit's 26-20 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in overtime on Sunday Night Football to start 1-0 on the year.

It wasn't a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination, but still coming away with a win not playing their best ball is what good teams do.

Here are all the key questions from Campbell's Monday presser:

Who stood out to Campbell after watching the film Monday morning?

Punter Jack Fox was the first name Campbell mentioned for his work all game but especially a late punt that pinned the Rams deep and set up a chance for a comeback. He also mentioned Khalil Dorsey as a gunner on special teams. The fact that Campbell led with those two shows just how much he values special teams.

"David Montgomery put that game on his shoulders, and he really willed that to happen. It was impressive. He's a stud, like I said last night," Campbell said.

He also mentioned wide receiver Jameson Williams' 121-yard receiving performance with a touchdown and the fact they expect even more out of him moving forward.

"Defensively, Alex (Anzalone) was all over the field, I thought (Aidan Hutchinson) Hutch and (Marcus) Davenport on the perimeter, man, they really, all day long, were a force.

"Kerby (Joseph) played a pretty good game. That was a big play right before halftime (with an interception in the end zone), but overall, it was pretty good by him."

How would Campbell evaluate the play of his new-look secondary in their first performance together?

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford finished 34-of-49 passing for 317 yards with a touchdown and an interception. But overall, the Rams ran 74 plays and scored only 20 points. That's not too bad.

"Well look, we've got a lot of room to grow, but yet, there were things in that game I was really proud of on the back end, he said. "It was good to see Carlton (Davis III) get in there and, man, it was a huge fourth-down stop that he had on the perimeter, but he's squeezing the run game. Was it his best game? No, but he did a lot of good things."

Campbell said the moment wasn't too big for rookie Terrion Arnold and that was a big takeaway not only watching live but also from the tape.

"He's got a lot to clean up, but yet, man, it was very promising," he said. "I mean, he was in stride, he showed up for us and he's only going to get better and better. It was good to see."

Brian Branch defended three passes and had a tackle for loss, and Campbell said the first thing Branch said to him after the game is that he won't the miss the couple tackles he missed against the Rams moving forward.

"But all in all, just cleaning up some of the communication, but I thought it was promising where our D-backs are at," Campbell said.

Was there a reason for the number of slips and footing issues on the Ford Field turf for both teams Sunday night?

Davis had a couple of them that resulted in big plays and both Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs had issues at times.

As far as Campbell knows, nothing was done to the turf and it's the same field as last year. He thought some of it could be attributed to getting used to playing back on the turf again.

How do the Lions get St. Brown more involved moving forward?

Credit the Rams for having a good plan to focus a lot of coverage St. Brown's way. That is what the elite receivers in this league have to deal with. St. Brown was targeted six times and finished with three receptions for just 13 yards.

"Yeah, I mean, we tried. We did," Campbell said. "We called his number quite a few times, it just – it felt like, for whatever reason, either coverage took it away or something like that happens on the inside slant and he kind of trips on it. There were just these things that it just kind of one of those games."

Campbell said St. Brown is constantly somebody he thinks about getting involved and that won't go away. The Lions certainly want to get him targeted more than what showed yesterday because he's a catalyst for this offense.

Is DJ Reader still on pace to make his Lions debut Sunday against Tampa Bay at Ford Field?

The plan coming out of training camp was always for Reader to play Week 2 after missing all of the offseason and training camp rehabbing a quad injury.

"Yeah, I mean, I think the plan was, ultimately, if we couldn't get DJ up last week or just, we didn't feel quite there," Campbell said. "Tampa was always the target. So, providing there's no setbacks, we'd like to get him going this week. He looked pretty good in practice."
