Making amends: Wide receiver Jameson Williams has been pretty good throughout camp so far, but Sunday wasn't his best day for about the first 95 percent of practice. Williams dropped a ball in one-on-one drills with the defensive backs and had two more drops in a team drill where the first-team offense was trying to get out of the shadow of its own end zone. Both led to punts, but Williams made amends late. He made maybe the catch of practice late in the last team period going up over three defenders over the middle to help put the offense in position to make a long field goal in walk-off fashion to end practice.
Bates watch: Speaking of long field goals, Jake Bates ended practice with a 64-yard field goal that had plenty of room to spare. It was the best sequence from the offense all day as they got into his range to the opponent's 46-yard line after staring at their own 25 down three points with just 21 seconds on the clock. Williams and wide receiver Kalif Raymond had big catches to set Bates up. That kick by Bates comes on the heels of a 53-yard field goal made in Thursday's preseason opener. He seems to be building confidence.

One-on-one drills: I spent the one-on-one period watching receivers vs. defensive backs. A few players stuck out to me, as follows:
- Offense: Amon-Ra St. Brown, Kaden Davis (catch of the period diving down sideline vs. Terrion Arnold) and Raymond.
- Defense: Carlton Davis had a really nice rep breaking a ball intended for St. Brown. He also ran right with Williams down the field on an overthrow that would have been tough to complete. Khalil Dorsey had a bunch of good reps in the drill and was also dominant in special teams drills as a gunner. He made a nice pass breakup in a 7-on-7 drill too. Good practice Sunday for him.
Wings jerseys: Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin, along with forward Alex DeBrincat, defenseman Jeff Petry and other Wings players took in practice Sunday and were giving out custom jerseys to some of the Lions players after the game. They looked to be a hot commodity.
Practice report: The Lions were without a few key contributors on the practice field Sunday at the Meijer Performance Center. Left tackle Taylor Decker, right guard Kevin Zeitler, tight end Sam LaPorta, linebacker James Houston, wide receiver Daurice Fountain and defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike are all dealing with minor injuries and working off to the side with trainers. Quarterback Hendon Hooker is still in concussion protocol and didn't participate. I also didn't see linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez.
O-line depth: The depth along the offensive line is starting to come more into focus as we enter our fourth week of camp. With Decker and Zeitler missing practice Sunday, Michael Niese filled in at right guard with the first-team offense and Dan Skipper at left tackle. Right tackle Penei Sewell had a lot of good things to say about Niese last week in New Jersey, including a fun nickname - 'Niese The Beast.'
Defensive day: I thought it was a good day for the defense overall. The offense was put in some tough situations being backed up, and twice the first-team defense forced three-and-outs. The second-team defense was 1-for-2 getting off the field in that scenario. Safety Brandon Joseph had an interception off quarterback Nate Sudfeld and linebacker Isaac Ukwu had a sack as both continue to impress coming off good preseason debuts vs. the Giants last week.
