Winning ways: Detroit's win Sunday improved their record to 9-1 on the season, their best 10-game start since 1934. Detroit's now won 30 games over the last three seasons, their most wins in any three-season span in franchise history. They've guaranteed themselves a winning record for the third straight season for the first time since 1993-95.
Deep arsenal: Jared Goff's third touchdown pass was to tight end Brock Wright on what looked like Goff's third or fourth read on the play.
"If I get to the third or fourth in the progression, it's a good player," Goff said after the game of why it's so fun playing quarterback in this offense. "That's not the case everywhere, and I don't take that for granted. It is something that we have the luxury to do with the skilled players we have and the o-line being able to protect long enough for me to get to the third and fourth progression. It's often a good player that can do something with the ball."
Home cooking: Detroit has topped 42 points and six touchdowns in three straight home games. It's the first time the Lions have scored six-or-more touchdowns in three straight home games. Lions home games are quickly becoming the hottest ticket in town.
Za'Darius Smith impact: The Lions introduced their starters on defense before the game and the loudest cheer from the Lions faithful came when Smith's name was announced. He played quite a bit and the Lions moved him all around the defensive front. Smith was brought in to rush the passer and set the edge. He was credited with a half sack and helped the Lions' defense allow just 41 rushing yards on 17 carries (2.4 avg.).
Replacing Anzalone: WILL linebacker Alex Anzalone is the defensive captain and heart and soul of that side of the football. It was tough to see him suffer a broken forearm that will sideline him 6-to-8 weeks, according to Dan Campbell. The Lions have a veteran linebacker room that defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn has a lot of faith in, so if any position group can step up and fill the void, it's that one.
Dynamic trio: Running backs David Montgomery (2) and Jahmyr Gibbs and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (2) all had touchdowns Sunday for the Lions. It's the eighth time all three players have scored touchdowns in the same game, the most such games by any trio in NFL history. The wild part about that is Montgomery is 27 years old, St. Brown is 25 and Gibbs is 22. There's still a lot of football remaining for these three.
Tackling: What a transformation for this defense from when Campbell and Glenn got here in 2021 to now in terms of the overall tackling ability, particularly the tackling from the secondary. Brian Branch, Kerby Joseph, Carlton Davis, Terrion Arnold and Amik Robertson are terrific tacklers and that's making a big difference for Detroit's defense this season.
1,000 yards: Gibbs has topped 1,000 scrimmage yards on the season (1,052) to become the first Lions running back since Reggie Bush in 2013 to accomplish that in a team's first 10 games. He had 123 scrimmage yards against the Jaguars.
Offensive efficiency: Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson said this week he wanted to see more efficiency from his unit this week. His players responded by notching franchise records for total yards (645) and first downs (38). Detroit became the first NFL team to produce a touchdown on each of the first seven drives of a game since the Patriots in Week 11 of the 2007 season.
Mobile Goff: Goff has terrific pocket presence. I asked him in the locker room the other day what the key to that was and he said the constant work he puts in with quarterbacks coach Mark Brunell. He said if he doesn't focus on it, he has a tendency to drift back and take sacks. Goff was terrific again in the pocket Sunday and even found some running lanes with four nice scrambles totaling 21 yards.
