How he fits: Scourton was a finalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy given to the top defensive player who exhibits integrity, maturity, performance, academics, community and tenacity. He sounds like a Detroit Lion already.

Scourton led Texas A&M with 14 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks this past season. He plays a physical brand of football on the edge with a skillset to be able to play all three downs, which the Lions and most other teams really value.

He's got a nice toolbox of pass-rush moves and plays with solid technique for such a young player. He transferred from Purdue to Texas A&M in 2024 and had 10.0 sacks in 2023 playing in the Big Ten. He doesn't have elite physical traits in terms of size and arm length, which is why he's considered a late first-round pick or early Day 2 pick, but he sets an edge in the run game and can help a team's pass rush early on.

Key observations: Scourton's 90.8 Pro Football Focus pass-rush grade since 2023 tied for eighth among all Power Four edge defenders.

What they had to say about him: "Bull in a china shop-defender who wins with mass, effort and will. Scourton might have bulked up too much last season, but he came to the combine at 257 pounds, which might be a better playing weight for him."- Eric Edholm, NFL.com

How he stacks up: Edholm puts Scourton at No. 50 on his list of the 100 Top Players in the class. NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks has a list of the Top 5 players at every position and Scourton comes in at No. 1 among true defensive ends ahead of Jack Sawyer (Ohio State), Landon Jackson (Arkansas), Princely Umanmielen (Mississippi) and Texas A&M teammate Shemar Stewart.

"Nic Scourton is a disruptive force off the edge as an energetic pass rusher," Brooks wrote. "The Texas A&M standout plays like a bull in a china shop, exhibiting a combination of strength and power that overwhelms blockers at the line."

The Athletic's Dane Brugler ranks Scourton as the No. 53 overall prospect in the class in his initial list of the Top 100 players in the draft. Scourton came in at No. 31 on Pro Football Focus' list of the Top 300 players in the class.

NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah released his Top 50 prospects 4.0 this week and lists Scourton at No. 49.

ESPN's Jordan Reid has Scourton at No. 45 on his Top 50 prospects in the class while Field Yates ranks Stewart No. 41 on his list of the Top 50 prospects.

"He is a tone-setting run defender who also brings a nifty arsenal of pass-rush moves (including a potent inside spin)," Yates wrote. "He is a powerful, thickly built edge rusher who can get underneath opposing offensive tackles."

What he had to say: "You know, I take a piece from everybody," Scourton said at the Combine when asked which NFL players he likes to watch. "There are a lot of great ones. Dwight Freeney, you know. A lot of guys with spin moves. Brian Burns, Rashan Gary, Aidan Hutchinson. I just love watching those guys get after it."
