Lions vs. Chargers: Roster Connections

Lions G Kenny Wiggins played for the Chargers from 2013-17 and helped the Chargers pass for a league-high 4,431 yards in 2017.

Lions Defensive Assistant Steve Gregory played six seasons for the Chargers from 2006-11. Gregory played in 85 games and recorded four interceptions as a defensive back.

Lions Assistant Special Teams Coach Marquice Williams (left) held the same role for the Chargers from 2016-17 and was a defensive assistant for the team in 2018. Lions Offensive Line Coach Jeff Davidson (right) held the same position with the Chargers during the 2016 season.

Chargers DB Desmond King II is from Detroit, Mich. and attended East English Village Preparatory School. King set a Michigan High School Athletic Association record with 29 career interceptions.

Chargers Assistant Defensive Backs Coach Chris Harris played for the Lions during the 2011 season. Harris was teammates with Lions QB Matthew Stafford and LS Don Muhlbach.

Lions CB Jamal Agnew, Defensive Backs Coach Brian Stewart, and Chargers Assistant Defensive Line Coach La'Roi Glover all hail from San Diego, Calif.

Lions DE Trey Flowers and Chargers T Trent Scott both grew up in Huntsville, Ala. The two faced off against each other in high school when Flowers' Columbia High School defeated Scott's Lee High School 17-6 in 2010.

Lions T Taylor Decker and Chargers DE Joey Bosa were teammates at Ohio State from 2013-15. Bosa cited Decker as one of the main reasons for his success at Ohio State due to the reps in practice against one another. In 2014, the two led the team to Ohio State's first National Championship since 2002.

Lions TE T.J. Hockenson and Chargers DB Desmond King II played together at Iowa in 2016.

Lions DL Da'Shawn Hand, DT A'Shawn Robinson, and Chargers LS Cole Mazza were teammates at Alabama from 2014-15. The trio won the National Championship in 2015, defeating Clemson 45-40. Lions DT A'Shawn Robinson and Chargers NT Damon Square also played together on Alabama's 2012 team.

Lions DB Quandre Diggs and Chargers S Adrian Phillips both played in the secondary for Texas from 2011-13. Diggs and Phillips combined for 132 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions, and 5.5 tackles for loss in 2013.

Lions WR Marvin Jones Jr. and Chargers WR Keenan Allen both played for California in 2010 and 2011. Jones and Allen led the team in reception yards in back-to-back years and in 2011 they combined for 160 catches, 2,189 yards, and nine touchdowns. Jones Jr. was the player that recruited Allen to California and Allen has called him his mentor. The two still remain close friends. They also played with Lions RB C.J. Anderson who transferred to California in 2011.

Lions C/G Graham Glasgow and Chargers G/T Michael Schofield III played on the offensive line at Michigan from 2011-13. In 2011, the team finished 11-2 and won the Sugar Bowl against Virginia Tech 23-20.

When Lions TE Logan Thomas took over the starting quarterback position at Virginia Tech in 2011, the player he replaced was Chargers QB Tyrod Taylor. Thomas and Taylor were both college quarterbacks, but Thomas transitioned to tight end when he entered the NFL. The Taylor-Thomas connection started in 2010 when on Oct. 16, 2010 Taylor completed a two-yard touchdown pass to Thomas for the Hokies against Wake Forest. Seven years later on Oct. 22, 2017 Taylor completed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Thomas for the Bills against Tampa Bay.

Lions DE Romeo Okwara and Chargers DE Isaac Rochell played on the Notre Dame defensive line together from 2013-15. In 2015, Okwara finished second on the team in sacks (12.5) whereas Rochell finished tied for fourth (6.5). After Leaving Notre Dame they remain very good friends.

Lions DE Trey Flowers, OL Frank Ragnow, and Chargers TE Hunter Henry were teammates for Arkansas in 2014. Ragnow and Henry also played together in 2015 and paved the way for RB Alex Collins to rush for 20 touchdowns that season, the most in single-season school history.

Lions RB C.J. Anderson and Chargers TE Virgil Green played from 2011-17 with the Denver Broncos. Green helped block for Anderson when he made his first Pro Bowl in 2014. They also won Super Bowl 50 together in which Anderson rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown. Chargers G/T Michael Schofield III blocked for Anderson on the Broncos from 2014-16. Lions K Matt Prater was also part of the Broncos teams from a span of 2011-14 with current Chargers Assistant Special Teams Coach Keith Burns (2011-12).

Lions TE Logan Thomas (2016) and QB Josh Jonson (2015) each spent time under Chargers Head Coach Anthony Lynn when he was the offensive coordinator in Buffalo.

Lions Offensive Coordinator Darrell Bevell and Chargers Defensive Coordinator Gus Bradley held the same positions in Seattle from 2011-12.

Lions DT Mike Daniels and Chargers CB Casey Hayward played for the Packers from 2012-15.
