KEY QUESTIONS: What's the latest update on Hutchinson's injury?

Head coach Dan Campbell spoke to the media Monday following Detroit's impressive 47-9 win on the road over the Dallas Cowboys. The victory came at a cost, however, as Pro Bowl edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson suffered a broken tibia and fibula that forced him to stay back in Dallas and undergo surgery. He's out for the foreseeable future.

The win improved the Lions to 4-1 on the season and sets up a terrific Week 7 matchup for early control of the NFC North against the 5-0 Minnesota Vikings on the road Sunday. Here are all the key questions from Campbell's Monday presser:

What is the latest update on Hutchinson's injury?

"Surgery went great," Campbell said.

Hutchinson is expected to be back in Detroit this week and Campbell said it will be a 4–6 month recovery time, but he also wouldn't put it past Hutchinson to be back before that expected timeframe. Campbell said it's important for players dealing with long-term recoveries to have that little nugget of hope.

"It hurts to lose somebody like him, not only the player but the person," Campbell said. "I would never count Hutch out (returning before 4-6 months), ever. Long road, but I'll never count him out and I would say if anybody can make it back it would be him."

What gives Campbell hope they can still have the same level of production defensively without Hutchinson?

Simply stated: Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.

"We've been coaching here four years and he's done everything in his power to work around any personnel we have and use the players that we have to get the most production we can," Campbell said. "And we will be able to adapt to that. I have a lot of faith in that D-line room."

Campbell mentioned they might have to play a little bit differently defensively to counter for Hutchinson's loss, but he's confident Glenn will come up with the right plan.

Who could be a player the Lions look to in Hutchinson's absence?

Most would start to look at the names along the edge where Hutchinson plays, but another player to consider is defensive tackle Alim McNeill. The fourth-year defender had a terrific game Sunday with two sacks and seven total pressures from the interior.

Campbell said McNeill took it personally he didn't have his best game Week 4 vs. Seattle and came out as a man on a mission against Dallas. With Hutchinson out of the picture for the foreseeable future, the Lions are going to need performances like the one they got from McNeill Sunday.

"That's what we expect every week out of Mac," Campbell said. "He's one of those guys we're going to lean on. It doesn't have to be Superman, but we have to get that out of him every week and he has that ability."

Could the Lions look to fill the void left by Hutchinson outside the organization?

Lions general manager Brad Holmes is always looking for ways to improve the roster both out of season and in-season, per Campbell.

"Is there somebody out there who could potentially help us? What is it going to cost? Those things will always come up," he said. "Just because that's there doesn't mean we're going to do it."

It has to be the right fit, according to Campbell. He said they currently aren't in a hurry to add outside the organization. He believes in the players here now who will be tasked with stepping up to fill the void, especially along the defensive line.

"It doesn't mean we're not looking and not evaluating," he said. "Brad is. That's his job and he's good at it. And we'll take it as it comes. But our eyes are open and we're going to make sure we have what we need here."

Campbell and Holmes aren't panicked and the team isn't panicked. It's next man up until they deem it necessary to add from outside the organization.

"I know AG is going to put together a hell of a game plan like he does every week and he's going to use everything that he has and the resources that we have, and we'll be ready to go," Campbell said. "If we get somebody, great. If we don't, these are our guys and the coaches know that."

What impressed Campbell the most about watching the Dallas tape?

It was Detroit's most complete game top to bottom in all three phases.

Defensively, he talked about the attention to detail and limiting Dallas to 3.9 yards per play. He quickly pivoted to the five takeaways (three interceptions and two fumbles) generated by the defense.

Offensively, he mentioned the 184 rushing yards and said quarterback Jared Goff played 'lights out.' He really liked the fact the offense generated 14 explosive plays against the Cowboys' defense.

On special teams, Campbell thought kicker Jake Bates had a terrific game going 4-for-4 on field goals and 5-for-5 kicking extra points.

What did Campbell think of Terrion Arnold's performance?

The rookie first-round cornerback was thrown at seven times and allowed three receptions for 46 yards, per Pro Football Focus. He wasn't flagged for a penalty the first time in a game this season.

"That was his best game," Campbell said of Arnold. "We saw improvement in man-to-man coverage. No DPI's or defensive holdings and things of that nature. Man, we saw improvement."
