Detroit Lions tight end Eric Ebron was carted off the practice field with an apparent right leg injury during the team's mock game at Ford Field Saturday.
Ebron, the Lions' top tight end, was blocking for running back Ameer Abdullah when the injury occurred.
Ebron spent several minutes on the ground clutching his right leg before a cart came out to take him off the field.
"It's never a good feeling to see your teammate go down," linebacker Tahir Whitehead said after the mock game. "I don't know what exactly is going on right now, but I pray it's nothing serious."
The Lions were forced to move the game to the other side of the field while trainers tended to Ebron. The severity of his injury is unknown. The players have the day off of training camp Sunday, and will be back on the field in Allen Park Monday morning.
Ebron, the No. 10 overall pick in 2014, is expected to play a significant role for the Lions this fall. He had 47 catches for 537 yards and five touchdowns last year.
The Lions were already a bit thin at tight end with Brandon Pettigrew still on the PUP list after suffering a torn ACL last season. Backup Tim Wright was lost for the year after suffering a season-ending injury earlier in the spring.
Without Ebron, the Lions' top tight ends in camp are currently Cole Wick, Matthew Mulligan, Orson Charles, Adam Fuehne and Ben McCord.
"If I have to play a little more, fine," Wick said after the mock game. "Hopefully he's back and ready to go and is in good shape."
