The Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association, together with the Detroit chapter of the Pro Football Writers Association (PFWA) have selected defensive end Kerry Hyder as its 2016 Detroit Lions DSBA-PFWA Media Friendly "Good Guy" Award winner. The second-year pro is 6-2, 270 pounds and 25 years of age. He record 36 tackles (23 solo) and 8.0 sacks in 16 games played (2 starts) in 2016. He attended Texas Tech University and hails from Austin, Texas.
The DSBA has also named offensive tackle Taylor Decker as its 2016 Lions Rookie of the Year in voting conducted annually by DSBA members. Decker started all 16 games for Detroit. He attended Ohio State University and hails from Vandalia, Ohio. The 23-year-old first-year pro is 6-7 and weighs 311 pounds and was a vital part of the Lions' improved offensive line during its 9-7 season which included a trip to the NFL playoffs. (Note: This award is not affiliated with the Lion team's annual Mel Farr Rookie of the Year Award.)
These awards will be presented to the players during the Lions training camp in August.
