Cowboys roundup: Rico Dowdle is hitting his stride at the perfect time for Dallas

The Detroit Lions (3-1), fresh off their bye, will make their second road trip of the season when they visit the Dallas Cowboys (3-2), who are winless at home to start the season. Sunday's matchup will mark the Lions' third consecutive game at AT&T Stadium in as many seasons and is the first of the next 4-of-5 games on the road this year.

Like Detroit, the Cowboys enter the game winners of two-straight and have won the last six meetings between the franchises, dating back to 2015.

Cowboys report: Dallas enters Sunday's game hot as of late, winning their last two games — both on the road — against the Steelers and Giants, despite losing two of their first three games to begin the year.

Quarterback Dak Prescott, who signed a new four-year $240 million contract extension just before the season opener, enters Week 6 second in the league with 1,424 passing yards and tied for fifth with eight touchdown passes. Most of Prescott's targets have been to wide receivers CeeDee Lamb (41) and Jalen Tolbert (29), who have 378 and 247 receiving yards, respectively, and both have two touchdowns. The passing game has been the strength for Dallas, as the run game ranks 31st in the league with 82 yards per game.

In their three wins, Dallas has held each of their opponents to 17 points or less while in their losses, the Ravens and the Saints put up 28 and 44 points. The Cowboys' defense is dealing with injuries as All-Pro players DeMarcus Lawrence, Micah Parsons and DaRon Bland missed last week's game vs. Pittsburgh, and Lawrence remains on Reserve/Injured while linebacker Eric Kendricks and Parsons were ruled out for this Sunday's game. In the red zone, the Cowboys also allow opponents to score touchdowns 78.6% of the time, which ranks 31st, and is an area where the Detroit offense reaches the end zone 55.6% of the time.

Last meeting: Dallas edged out Detroit in close 20-19 win at AT&T Stadium in Week 17 of last season, where neither side led by more than one possession throughout. After Lamb scored the only touchdown in the first half with a 92-yard reception for Dallas, Detroit finally found the end zone midway in third quarter. David Montgomery converted a 3-yard run, which was countered by a Dallas 51-yard field goal to tie the score at 10-10 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the final minute of the game, Jared Goff connected with Amon-Ra St. Brown for an 11-yard touchdown. Detroit, however, fell short after failing the 2-point conversion on the third try where a previously successful attempt was negated by an illegal touching penalty on Taylor Decker.

Quick hits:

1. In all three of Dallas' wins, they have led at the halftime break, but trailed in both of their losses. Since 2021, the Cowboys are 31-2 when leading at halftime.

2. Prescott has a 5-0 record against Detroit.

3. Kicker Brandon Aubrey has converted a 50-plus-yard field goal in seven consecutive games, an NFL record.
