TWENTYMAN: Breaking down the Lions' remaining games

The Detroit Lions get will get a week off to rest and heal up after Monday night's thrilling 42-29 win over Seattle. Teams typically like their bye week to fall somewhere in the middle of the season to break up the schedule but given the number of injuries the Lions are currently dealing with, a Week 5 bye might not be so bad.

Following is a breakdown of Detroit's 13-game stretch coming out of their Week 5 bye:

Week 6 at Dallas

Boy how things can change over the course of just a calendar year. After going undefeated at home last season, the Cowboys are currently 0-2 at AT&T Stadium.

Twentyman: Despite some of their early-season struggles, this is still a formidable Cowboys team that ranks 13th in total offense. The Lions certainly have some unfinished business to attend to in Dallas given how last year's game ended.

Week 7 at Minnesota

The Vikings are arguably the best story in football the first month of the season with a 4-0 record and a team that plays complementary football, ranking in the top 10 in total offense and points allowed.

Twentyman: Veteran journeyman quarterback Sam Darnold leads the NFL in passer rating (118.9) and touchdown passes (11) after the first month of the season. They have weapons in Minnesota, and Darnold knows how to get them the football.

Week 8 vs. Tennessee

The Titans got their first win of the season Monday night beating Miami, 31-12.

Twentyman: Detroit is the better football team. This is an important game for Detroit to take care of business at home before hitting the road for two straight games following this matchup after playing two straight away from Ford Field coming in.

Week 9 at Green Bay

The Lions will be looking to make it three consecutive wins at Lambeau Field. They haven't done that since 1968-70.

Twentyman: The Packers are expected to be right in the thick of the NFC North race when it's all said and done so this is a key early November division matchup.

Week 10 at Houston

This Houston team is full of skill-position weapons with a young quarterback in C.J. Stroud who can get them the football anywhere on the field.

Twentyman: Detroit's secondary will have half the season under their belt at this point and the expectation is for them to be playing their best football of the season. They'll need to be in this one.

Week 11 vs. Jacksonville

The Lions are back at Ford Field after four of their last five on the road. The 0-4 Jaguars have been one of the bigger disappointments in the NFL so far this season.

Twentyman: The Jaguars' offense ranks 24th after the first month of the season with quarterback Trevor Lawrence ranking 26th in passer rating (78.9). Will they have it figured out by the time this Week 11 contest rolls around?

Week 12 at Indianapolis

Detroit takes the short journey south to take on an Indianapolis team that can beat opponents in a lot of different ways with a versatile offense and skill weapons.

Twentyman: Detroit's defense has done a pretty good job limiting plays out of the pocket from some of the dynamic quarterbacks they've played this season. They get another challenge this week in that regard with Anthony Richardson.

Week 13 vs. Chicago

Detroit gets their first look at No. 1 pick Caleb Williams and a Bears team that's finding ways to win football games while their rookie quarterback settles in.

Twentyman: The Lions haven't won on Thanksgiving since 2016. That's seven straight losses and three of those are to Chicago. It's time for Detroit to break that streak of losses on turkey day.

Week 14 vs. Green Bay

The Packers came into Ford Field and handed the Lions a 29-22 loss on Thanksgiving last season. It was the Lions' only home loss to a division opponent last year. It's another primetime game in Detroit, and if they want to win their second straight division title, it's imperative they win division games at home.

Twentyman: The Packers' defense has generated the most takeaways (12) in the NFL through the first four games of the season. Jared Goff and the Lions' offense will have to be especially good about taking care of the football.

Week 15 vs. Buffalo

This will be the final game in a three-game home stretch for the Lions, their longest of the season. Buffalo is one of the more complete teams in football. Could this be a potential Super Bowl preview?

Twentyman: The Lions are coming off the turn and headed for the home stretch of the regular season with four games to go. Lions head coach Dan Campbell wants his team to be playing their best football in December. Will that be the case for Detroit in this matchup between respective conference contenders?

Week 16 at Chicago

In Chicago on Dec. 22 the weather could certainly play a factor as this is only the second time the Lions will play outdoors all season.

Twentyman: Detroit is 2-2 in the Campbell era in Chicago. With a powerhouse matchup in San Francisco the following week, this is one the Lions can't let slip through their grasp.

Week 17 at San Francisco

There could be a lot on the line with the playoffs right around the corner in this Week 17 rematch of last year's NFC Championship Game.

Twentyman: The 49ers have been riddled by injuries early but don't let their 2-2 record fool you. They'll be right there among the NFC leaders at the end of the regular season and this game could have massive implications for the playoffs.

Week 18 vs. Minnesota

Let's hope this is a repeat of last year's Week 18 matchup between these two when the Lions had already wrapped up the NFC North title and this was all about seeding.

Twentyman: The way the Vikings have started doesn't seem like a fluke. They've got weapons on both sides of the football and Kevin O'Connell is an underrated head coach in this league.
